PERCEPTIONS OF STREET TRADING
Dominant public discourse generally describe street traders as a nuisance, bringing congestion, litter and disorder into the streets. Yet, when the majority of the people buy from them, interact with them, often on a daily basis - and when probed a bit further than those dominant discourses, they recognise that street traders make the streets safer, livelier; that they are hard workers providing a service to the neighborhood in many ways. It is the contradictions of these dicourses that we wanted to unpack.
