YEOVILLE STUDIO ON REPRESENTATION
Yeoville Studio was part of the international conference organised in Paris X Nanterre, around the theme "Representing South African cities". Sophie Didier presented a paper, and together with Claire Bénit-Gbaffou put together an exhibition reflecting on the different forms and meanings of representation.
Architecture students representing, together with residents through drawing and cutting papers, housing trajectories and spaces; former Yeoville residents revisiting the places that they liked in Yeoville in the past, contrasting their memories with spatial change; students capturing the identity of a street through photography, and asking residents to choose which picture "represented" the street the most; and finally local activists claiming a form of representation of Yeoville residents.
