AFRICAN RESTAURANTS - A GUIDE

This 2010 guide to African restaurants in Yeoville is based on a research report conducted by second year Wits Planning students, interested in the diversity of African cultures in Yeoville. They mapped both formal and informal restaurants, some opened to a broader public and some mostly addressing regional and community patronage.

Whilst at first some restaurant owners were hesitant in letting students conduct interviews and take photograph, the distribution of the restaurants guide was welcome by all. An embryo of associations of restaurants owners approached YBCDT, an organisation keen to celebrate the Pan African identity of the neighborhood, to further develop the initiative, seen as a possible developmental opportunity.

A project facilitated by Claire Bénit-Gbaffou & Nqobile Malaza
