Dear colleagues

Due to the unprecedented impact and uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Wits Orthopaedic Surgery Research Day (WOSRD) 2021 Wits Orthopaedics Research committee (WORC) is very happy to announce that the Research Day is scheduled to take place on November 10, 2021, in a virtual format. Attached to this communication, please find a save-the-date reminder for the conference. The abstract submission and registration portals will open shortly, and we encourage active participation to strengthen the Orthopaedics community in South Africa.

The Wits Orthopaedic Surgery division consists of the three central units based at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic and Helen Joseph/ Rahima Moosa complex Hospitals. We also have training posts and consultants based at two satellite hospitals (Sebokeng and Klerksdorp/Tshepong/Thelle Mogoerane hospitals). Consultants provide regular teaching and sub-specialty services at these hospitals.

In addition to the ubiquitous trauma, there are also several sub-specialty units. These being Arthroplasty, Spine, Upper Limb, Hands, Paediatric Orthopaedics, Tumour and Infection, and Sports (knee, foot and ankle). We offer further training in all these areas following successful completion of the Orthopaedic Surgery qualification. We hope to see you (virtually) at Wits Orthopaedic Surgery Research Day 2021!

Kind regards

Dr M. Jingo (on behalf of the WORC)
