Gender Equity Office

A holistic and integrated office that deals with all aspects of sexual harassment pertaining to staff members (academic and support staff, including staff from subcontracted companies) and students. It is tasked with the following functions: 

• Developing University policies and enhancing the coordination and understanding of relevant policies;
• Raising awareness of issues and preventative measures around sexual harassment;
• Providing psychosocial support and/or mediation services to staff members and students who have experienced sexual harassment; and
• Investigating and prosecuting formal sexual harassment complaints within the University systems.

The Wits Centre for Diversity Studies is based in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of the Witwatersrand. Through interdisciplinary postgraduate education, courses for the public, and research, WiCDS aims to build capacity to meet the challenges of diverse societies, especially in post-apartheid South Africa

Counselling and Careers Development Unit (CCDU)

CCDU provides several services related to counselling and career development, including psychometric career assessments, personal development workshops, therapy, peer counselling, life skills development and graduate recruitment. It also provides HIV/Aids Education and Support to the university community.

Campus Health and Wellness Centre (CHWC)

The CHWC offers a wide variety of health services to Wits students and staff, including medical consultations, minor surgical procedures, voluntary HIV/Aids counselling and testing, immunisations, pregnancy testing and the dispensing of medication prescribed by Campus Health professionals, as well as referral to other health-related services.

Disability Rights Unit

The Disability Rights Unit works towards the creation of a physically, technologically and socially accessible environment for all students with disabilities, and offers several services in order to achieve this goal. Services include the assessment of students, the availability of specialist computer centres and improved physical access across the university’s many campuses and buildings. The unit also offers assistance to lecturers in terms of teaching students with disabilities.

Drama for Life

Drama for Life is an independent academic, research and community engagement programme based at the Wits School of Arts. The programme’s mission is to enhance dialogue for purposes of social transformation, through research, teaching, learning and community engagement. Drama for Life projects  focus on the areas of human rights and diversity, HIV/Aids, conflict management and peace building and environmental sustainability.
