Student Support
Wits takes a holistic approach to student development. As a Wits student, you have access to many forms of support.
Within each Faculty, the first place to seek support is from a Faculty Student Advisor. Each Faculty has its own Student Advisors, who are knowledgeable about the programmes the Faculty offers. To see a list of Faculty Student Advisors, click here. Faculty advisors can help with curriculum planning, accessing extra tutoring and developing skills needed for academic success. They also refer students to the right place to get help with finances, food, accommodation and health and wellness needs.
The Student Affairs Office offers support for a number of life issues. The Counselling and Careers Development Unit (CCDU) provides careers counselling and offers support for many issues that students may face, ranging from time and stress management skills to depression, anxiety and grief counselling. To contact CCDU call 011 717 9140 / 32, or email: info.ccdu@wits.ac.za. For after hours support please see a list of contacts here.
The First Year Experience Programme supports students in making the transition from high school to university life.
The Accommodation Office assists students to find accommodation, both on and off campus.
The Campus Health and Wellness Centre is a registered medical practice.
The Wits Food Programme helps students who are food insecure. It also runs food gardens where student volunteers grow vegetables for students who access the Wits Food Programme.
The International Students Office offers a number of services to international students.
If you are a postgraduate student, contact the Postgraduate Research, and Development Office for research and writing support and the Wits Postgraduate Association for other forms of support. Faculties also have their own activities to support postgraduate students.
The Wits Writing Centre offers support to any student or staff member who want to work on their writing.
The Student Employment Portal provides information on part-time and casual work opportunities on campus.
