Engaged Scholarship Journey and Innovations with Professor Bernadette Atuahene

Professor Bernadette Atuahene, an American Law Professor and writer, encouraged academics to make their work personal, saying that there is great power in individualizing a problem. She was speaking at the Wits School of Governance Roundtable on Engaged Scholarship Journey and Innovations on 18 July 2024. Professor Atuahene said that by presenting an issue on a personal level, academics can make their findings more impactful and relatable.

Call for Abstracts 2024/25 (Closing: 30 October 2024)

Tayarisha seeks to invite papers on digital governance politics, strategies and administration from perspectives in the Global South. Accepted papers will be assembled into the second working papers volume, and a subset of relevant papers will be chosen for consideration towards a proposed Special Issue on “The international politics of AI Governance: A view from the Global South”. The closing date for the call is 30 October 2024.

Research The Centre conducts academically rigorous, cutting-edge research on the challenges and opportunities presented by digitalisation, particularly in the public sector.
Attendees at the first civic tech innovation short course
Teaching and Learning Tayarisha has adopted a research-informed teaching approach that ties the research undertaken by the Centre to inform all teaching programmes. This is to provide cutting-edge and policy-relevant programmes that remain focused on the current digital context of the African continent.
Outreach Podcast conversations with leading thinkers and practitioners exploring digitisation and governance, and Lunch Box series convening of Tayarisha’s students, associates and partners with the aim to create a community of intellectuals to discuss innovative ideas on digital governance and related fields.

Programmes

Hanns Seidel Foundation The Tayarisha Centre and the Hans Seidel Foundation have partnered on a research project that aims to deepen our understanding of the effects of digitalisation on state-society relations in Africa.
SA/EU Policy Dialogues The SA/EU International Dialogue on Strengthening Digital Governance in South Africa provides the opportunity for the partners to engage in mutual learning through policy and practice dialogues.
Civic Tech Innovation Network The Civic Tech Innovation Network (CTIN) is a grant-funded programme focused on digital innovations in civil society.
Gov-Tech Incubator The Tayarisha Gov-Tech Incubator (GTI) is seed-funded with generous support from The Oppenheimer Memorial Trust, and the national Centre for Public Service Innovation.
