Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) is one of the largest and most far-reaching socio-economic experiments to reduce inequality and broaden ownership and economic participation in South Africa's history. Despite the size and importance of the intervention that was and is BEE, there has been very little in the way of systematic review of the impact of BEE on ownership, inequality, unemployment and economic participation, based on empirical work. In response, this project presents a wide-ranging, although not exhaustive, analysis of BEE broadly conceived.
