Oral and maxillofacial radiology is the specialty of dentistry and discipline of radiology concerned with the production and interpretation of images and data produced by all forms of radiant energy that are used for the diagnosis and management of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral and maxillofacial region (or the mouth and jaw areas).
Educational
In the courses Integrated Dentistry, Comprehensive Patient Care, Advanced Comprehensive Patient Care & Integrated Learning focused on the clinical years of training. The curricula is aimed at preparing students for professional practice relevant to the expectation of today’s and future healthcare needs. Course sessions and activities will also include sessions designed to introduce students to the current environment of dental practice, and new developments globally and continuing education in the dental profession aa lifelong learners
Clinical
The students are expected to address the patient holistically, honing clinical skills in communication, clinical care, interprofessional team approach to assist their patients by addressing their comprehensive healthcare needs. Newer technologies in dental care are constantly reviewed for students to experience as part of clinical processes, while emphasizing the basic skills that underpin good clinical practice.
Social engagement
The students will encounter patients from all walks of life, experiencing a range of common and not so common oral health needs, and arrangement is further made for them to work in clinics in communities that are underserviced in dental health care, thus creating exposure to the socio-economic and sociocultural influences in the communities with the aim to create a social accountability in their approach to their professional responsibilities.
This enables them to meet real world challenges of setting up community clinics without previous work experience in the field, to start up successful multidisciplinary practices in the community they provide service, to contribute towards the improvement of services in community and private practice through innovative changes within and program in the community.
