Africa Human Rights Day Dialogue

Join us for a virtual dialogue celebrating the 41st anniversary of the African Charter on Human and People's Rights

Africa Human Rights Day is celebrated annually on 21 October to mark the coming into effect of the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights the founding treaty of the African Human Rights system. 2022 will mark the 41st anniversary of the adoption of this Charter.

On 31 October 2022, CALS and the Rastafari Human Rights Institute are hosting a dialogue commemorating Africa Human Rights Day and the work done by many to entrench human rights in South Africa and the African continent. The dialogue will take place over Zoom from 10:00

Speakers are set to include:

  • Prof Siphamandla Zondi (Director for Pan-African Thought and Conversation, University of Johannesburg)
  • Adv Sipho Mantula (Rastafari Rights Activist & Researcher at the Thabo Mbeki School of Public and International Affairs)
  • Dikeledi Mokoena (Associate Lecturer: Department of History and Political Studies, Nelson Mandela University)
  • Corlette Letlojane (Executive Director of the Human Rights Institute of South Africa) 
  • Thuto Gabaphethe (Candidate legal practitioner at the Centre for Applied Legal Studies)
