Following a recommendation by the board of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), Communications Minister Dina Pule has announced the appointment of Gugu Duda as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the SABC.
The appointment is effective 1 March 2012, for a period of five years.
According to a statement from the Department of Communications, Duda has the relevant qualifications, skills, capabilities and experience required for the position.
She has extensive executive, financial and strategic leadership experience. A chartered accountant by training, Duda was previously CFO for Internet and Telephone banking at the First National Bank.
Duda left to join Wipcapital as executive investment manager, before departing for AngloGold Ashanti to take up the position of vice president for strategy and risk integration for continental Africa.
Upon obtaining her Bachelor of Commerce in accounting degree from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), she completed her Honours degree at the University of South Africa. Duda later completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management and a certificate in Theory of Accountancy.
Minister Pule is satisfied about the integrity of the selection and evaluation process.
The Minister, Deputy Minister and the SABC Board congratulate Duda on her appointment and wish her every success in assisting to turn around and stabilising the public broadcaster.
Duda’s appointment re-affirms Minister Pule’s commitment to, after due process and consideration, quickly fill the top executive positions at the SABC. This should allow the SABC to deliver broadcasting services to the South African public in a cost effective manner.
