Research and Development Support

This programme is aimed at supporting academic research and development (both applied and fundamental), resulting in increased collaboration between universities and industry in order to improve the competitiveness of the South African aerospace industry.

This programme is therefore complementary to the Industrialisation programme and focuses on those R&D areas that still require a significant level of prior research (Technology Readiness Levels 1 to 3) before any industrialisation can take place (This programmes is looking at present at new topics such as big data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Quantum Methods and additive manufacturing). This is commonly referred to within the value chain as the “technology push”
