Let your printing follow you

A new printing service is being implemented throughout the University which will result in improved print service delivery for students. Over 160 devices will be deployed across all campuses.

Students can print their work at any student printing device on any campus.

Some of the benefits include:

  • Follow Me Printing – the ability to release your print job to any student printing device on any campus,
  • support for mobile device printing (printing from smartphones and tablets to any student device across the University),
  • integration with ICAM so that print jobs can be released using access cards,
  • more multi-function student devices across all campuses (print, copy, and free scanning),
  • access to printing, copying and scanning facilities at certain residences,
  • access to more colour printers in student areas, and
  • a similar printing experience across all the different areas of the University.

Student pricing

Following consultation with relevant stakeholders, including the Students’ Representative Council on the pricing and location of the new printers, the following prices were agreed:

Important Information

  1. Print jobs will stay in the job queue for 72 hours, after which they will be automatically deleted.
  2. All printing will default to double-sided printing to save costs. If single-sided printing is required, a different print queue must be selected as listed below in the printer drivers section.
  3. When you print, choose the appropriate printer queue, depending on the type of printing you require.
Printer drivers

On dedicated student devices in computer lab areas running the Windows operating system and added to the Active Directory domain, printer queues have been automatically deployed.

Please ensure that you select the appropriate driver during printing:

  • Student-BW on km-ssprint-01.ss.wits.ac.za
  • Student-Colour on km-ssprint-01.ss.wits.ac.za
  • STUDENT-BW-SIMPLEX on km-ssprint-01.ss.wits.ac.za
  • STUDENT-COLOUR-SIMPLEX on km-ssprint-01.ss.wits.ac.za

If you are using an Apple, Linux or Windows device that is not on the domain, you will need to install printer drivers from the network path \\km-ssprint-01.ss.wits.ac.za\Drivers
