Qualifying Criteria
The bursary is awarded to candidates who satisfy the following criteria:
- They should be South African citizens who form part of the group of historically disadvantaged persons.
- They should presently be studying an undergraduate, an honours or a masters degree at Wits University.
- They should be enrolled in one of the disciplines: engineering, science or technology.
- An application form should be completed and a CV attached with full academic record.
- Two essays on a topic determined by the Board of Trustees should be submitted.
What does the bursary offer?
- Registration, tuition and examination fees.
- University residence fees.
- Course books and other tutorial materials.
- A reasonable allowance, as determined by the Board of Trustees, to cover living expenses.

Selection process
The Board of Trustees will review applications from all candidates and draw up a shortlist. Candidates who are short-listed will be required to undergo an interview before the final decision by the Board of Trustees is made.
Terms and Conditions
- The bursary is re-awarded each year subject to a student's successful and satisfactory completion of the previous year's studies.
- Bursary students are required to undertake vacation work at Royal Bafokeng Holdings (Pty) Ltd or an entity nominated by Royal Bafokeng Holdings (Pty) Ltd at the end of each year, subject to the availability of a position.
- Students are required to spend one year in the service of Royal Bafokeng Holdings (Pty) Ltd, or in the service of another entity nominated by Royal Bafokeng Holdings, for each year of bursary entitlement.
