Hydrogeology

One of the critical challenges in the study and management of groundwater resources in southern Africa is a lack of reliable instrumentation.

The Hydrogeology Research Lab in the School of Geosciences seeks to address this with a range of state-of-the-art water analysis instrumentation.

Currently, the laboratory is equipped with a TLC and Dip meter (for groundwater level measurement), interface meter (for hydrocarbon leakage detection in groundwater), bacteriological incubator (for bacterial culture from surface and ground water), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD₅) instrument, LGR liquid Water Isotope analyser and PDV Ultra trace metal analyser besides field based multi parameter water quality instruments and flow meter.
