The Centre for Exercise Science and Sports Medicine was established in October 2004. In 2008 it was accredited as Africa’s first FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence. It has since also been accredited as a FIMS (International Sports Medicine Federation) Collaborating Centre of Sports Medicine. You can view the FIMS website here. The Centre has also been awarded Gold status by the global exercise is medicine initiative. In 2022, the Centre was renamed to the Department of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine.

Exercise Science and Sports Medicine offer numerous group classes as well as sport assessments, chronic disease rehabilitation, orthopaedic rehabilitation, health and wellness programmes as well as corporate health and fitness programmes.
