Vision and Mission

Vision

The Evolutionary Studies Institute is to be a unique African centre of excellence for the comprehensive study of the evolution of life on Earth.

Expansion of the Vision:

The ESI will be built on the foundation of more than eight decades of research by the University of the Witwatersrand on the exceptional fossil and archaeological resources available in South Africa. From this secure base it will expand to embrace all forms of academic endeavour for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge of the development of life over evolutionary time.

Mission

The Institute will provide the infrastructure, resources and collegial ambiance to which world-class researchers from all disciplines are attracted and in which intellectual excellence will be stimulated and flourish.
