Electrical Engineering

The Master of Engineering (Professional) by coursework only is a 1 year full-time or 2 year part-time degree offered in the field of Electrical Engineering in the specialisations of Power Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering.

Overview


This qualification is a coursework only degree that is focused on delivering specialist knowledge for industry.  It comes in one of two different specialisations: Power Engineering Telecommunications Engineering

This degree is offered to those who already have a four year MSc in Electrical Engineering (or Equivalent), a Postgraduate Diploma in Electrical Engineering or an Electrical Engineering related BSc (Hons).

Notes:

  • No more than 40 credits can be obtained from repeating courses (this means you may not fail more than two 20 credit courses)
  • If a course has been failed twice, it cannot be taken a third time.
  • If an elective from another School is chosen, please ensure you meet the requirements of that elective.

Entry Requirements


  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering 4th year or equivalent cognate qualification
  • PG Dip Eng with average >= 60%
  • The 60% may be reviewed if the applicant has relevant working experience those described in the Differently Qualified Applicant tables.

A supervisor must be identified and approached prior to application.

  • Applications are handled centrally by the Student Enrolment Centre (SEnC). Once your application is complete in terms of requested documentation, your application will be referred to the relevant School for assessment. Click here to see an overview of the Wits applications process.   • Please apply online. Upload your supporting documents at the time of application, or via the Self Service Portal.
  • Applicants can monitor the progress of their applications via the Self Service Portal.
  • Selections for programmes that have a limited intake but attract a large number of applications may only finalise the application at the end of the application cycle.
