Interdisciplinary Teaching and Research Collaborations

As a teaching and research group, CIL intends to take advantage of its location in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment to provide opportunities for collaborations that break the proverbial ‘academic silos’ in research and teaching among the seven schools and numerous research facilities. CIL will be the platform where the various disciplinary groups can exchange ideas while advancing knowledge impacts in their specialist areas.

CIL believes that colleagues in the seven departments – the School of Construction Economics and Management; School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering; School of Civil and Environmental Engineering; School of Electrical and Information Engineering; School of Mechanical, Industrial and Aeronautical Engineering; the School of Mining; the School of Architecture and Planning – as well as the social and humanities faculties in Wits University can contribute towards the goals of sustainable development and heritage protection of the natural and the built environment.
