Professor Gita Naidu

Prof Naidu has a special interest in leukaemias, lymphomas, retinoblastoma, AIDS-related malignancies, neuroblastoma, and infectious toxicities in children treated for cancer. Her PhD supervisor was Professor SA Madhi, and her topic was on infections in children with cancer. She has recently completed a course in Infections in the Immunocompromised Child at St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. She is involved with outreach to eSwatini and Zimbabwe. National and global collaboration is important to her to improve the outcomes of children with cancer. She is the local coordinator for the St Jude’s sub-Saharan Africa weekly tumour board meeting. She is the chair of the South African Children’s Cancer Study Group, member of global retinoblastoma group and a global group for the use of the Covid vaccine in children with cancer, a director of Kids Kicking Cancer, Reach for a Dream Foundation, and a board member of CHOC.
