Professor Haroon Saloojee

Bio/Professional interests Prof Saloojee is a full (personal) professor and head of the Division of Community Paediatrics since 1999. He is also a clinical unit head at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (CHBAH) in Soweto. He is a paediatrician with an interest in neonatology, and headed the neonatal unit at CHBAH from 2004 to 2009. He has a range of research and academic interests including childhood malnutrition, neonatal care, medical education, child population health and health systems organisation.Prof Saloojee is a member of the Senate of the university, and serves on a number of faculty and departmental committees.He is the current chairperson of the South African Paediatric Association and past president of the College of Paediatricians of South Africa and the South African Child Health Priorities Association. He is the College representative to the Global Pediatric Education Consortium.He serves on two South African ministerial committees - one on child mortality and morbidity (COMMIC), and another on immunisation (NAGI). He is also a board member of the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS). He has offered technical support to various World Health Organization maternal and child health technical committees. He serves on several international data monitoring committees including the African Data and Safety Monitoring Board of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) Allergy and Infectious Diseases/Division of AIDS (DAIDS).
