Postgraduate Diploma in Child Health

 

Postgraduate Diploma in Child Health (Community Paediatrics)
This two-year part-time course is designed to prepare students for leadership positions as maternal and child managers (at district, provincial or national level), researchers, educators, or service co-ordinators in the field of maternal and child health.

It is highly relevant to the work of district clinical specialist team members.

The course focuses on developing student's competencies in areas such as critical and analytic thinking, strategic planning and programme planning, implementation and management, policy and advocacy development, working with others (including community), and ethics and values.

Upon completion, students will have acquired an integrated knowledge of many aspects of maternal and child health, and skills and competencies applicable to multiple clinical and public health settings.

 Entrance requirements

Applicants should have either a Bachelor's degree of at least four years duration, or an Honours degree. Applicants should have a degree in a health science (or related) discipline and some work experience in the field of child (and/or maternal) health.

Course organisation

The coursework extends over two academic years of part-time study. Students have to complete 8 modules (4 annually). Each module requires one-week attendance at the university.
