CCDU Mentoring Support

CAPACITY TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT OF MENTORS

CCDU offers a basic training programme covering the key components of mentorship. It focuses on self-awareness, stages of mentorship, developing personal management skills, understanding the purpose of mentoring and developing effective ways to support student mentees.

All the mentors are specially trained to be effective resources with good communication and leadership skills, the ability to promote positive academic behaviour, interpersonal skills, ethical implications, and general life skills.  More importantly they are trained on how to provide leadership and support to students through the mentoring process.

HELPING ESTABLISH A MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME

At the CCDU we understand that we cannot reach all students by ourselves and so aspire to establish strong partnerships across our University. We encourage student cohorts to organize and manage their own mentorship programmes, where students are able to support each other. Once this is done, we are able to provide support to the coordinators of these mentoring programmes, to help establish them as well as to assist in the initial phases. The support offered includes:

  • Consultation around structure
  • Mentor recruiting and training
  • Continuous support for mentorship development

COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE

We understand that there are various programmes on campus that are hugely successful and that we can learn from the experiences of many individuals. Our continuous aim therefore is to meet as people involved directly with the work; to share ideas, best practices and together support each other through the challenges. We will often have call stakeholder meetings; please feel free to connect with us to join such a community.
