Ernest Oppenheimer Hall

Males only, traditionally houses Health Science and Engineering students

  • The residence was established in 1967
  • Housing: 392 students (237 beds in the catering section and 155 beds in the self-catering section).
  • Meals: Catering and self-catering.
  • Amenities include two TV rooms, a tuck shop, a lounge area, vending machine, a games/assembly lounge, study rooms, a computer centre that has wifi connectivity, a gym, tennis court, large swimming pool, laundry facilities, kitchens in the self-catering section and squash court, training fields in close proximity to the residence.
  • Popular with Engineering and Health Science students.
  • Wits bus service to all nearby campuses, and weekend buses to Rosebank shopping mall.

Girton Hall

Residence for female students up to 25 years of age (Undergraduate only) 

High-rise buildings surrounded by a manicured garden, located on the Wits Parktown Education Campus between the Medical School and the Wits Parktown Management Campus.

Housing 301 first-year undergraduate Health Sciences students.

Amenities include:

  • WiFi;
  • Meals are served at a Dining Hall nearby;
  • Multipurpose room with a TV (DSTV);
  • Laundry facilities;
  • Communal bathrooms;
  • Kitchenette on alternate floors;
  • Communal kitchen with a stove and storage cupboards.
  • Computer lab (printer available on the ground floor);

The Knockando Halls of Residence (Lighton Hall and Williams Hall) are just north of the Wits University Donald Gordon Medical Centre and a ten-minute walk from the Medical School.

"Men’s Res" (College House and Dalrymple House) is joined by a communal driveway and linking gardens.

Housing 416 male students.

Accommodation varies from single to sharing double and triple rooms.

Amenities include:

  • Meals are served in the main dining hall in the Students’ Union building;
  • Common room;
  • Two TV lounges (one with DSTV);

Sunnyside, the smallest of all catering residences, is an attractive Herbert Baker–style building with a private garden.

Housing 280 female students.

Accommodation varies from single to sharing double and triple rooms.
